About
Bio/Description

I am a Marine Biologist with a PhD in Marine Sciences from UNAM and an MSc in Coastal Oceanography from UABC. My research focuses on the ecophysiology and photobiology of seaweeds, a path that led me to the Applied Phycology Laboratory at Cinvestav-Mérida in Yucatán, Mexico. As a postdoctoral researcher there, I investigated the physiology and cultivation of both local red seaweeds and holopelagic Sargassum.During this period, I began collaborating with the SaBRE (Sargassum BioREfinery) project, led by Dr. Avalos, by providing ecological insights and sourcing samples. This experience developed my interest in the biological degradation of Sargassum from both ecological and industrial perspectives.

As of 2026, I have officially joined the Avalos Lab to expand this collaboration with SaBRE. My current focus is on studying Sargassum degradation compounds at a lab scale to broaden the project’s biorefinery strategies.I enjoy the unique scientific challenges within each research area, as they continuously broaden my professional perspective.

Outside the lab, I enjoy exercising, long walks, good coffee, and 90s indie rock. I’m joined by my Yucatecan adopted cat, Níich (Mayan for “bite”), a name that became unexpectedly fitting once I discovered her favorite hobby!
